Ironwood sickle Cane with Cocobolo
Ironwood sickle Cane with Cocobolo
Even after working with countless woods I can confidently say I have a favorite species - Desert Ironwood from Arizona. This exquisite cane features a handle of figured desert ironwood that is outstanding quality material with golden chatoyance and wild, contrasting bands, and curl figure. As its name implies, Desert Ironwood is very dense and strong, a highly recommended wood for a high-end but durable cane. The shaft is Cocobolo rosewood from Mexico with interesting grain patterns and vibrant red/orange color. Brass is always my metal of choice with ironwood as it pairs so nicely. Moderate weight, not too heavy to be excluded for that reason. The handle is my "sickle" style, very comfortable for daily use. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
The last image is of an ironwood tree (Olneya Tesota) in the Sonoran desert.
