Hainan Rosewood and Tulipwood Cane
Hainan Rosewood and Tulipwood Cane
A gallery quality cane featuring the most expensive wood in the world - Hainan rosewood, or Dalbergia Oderifera (Latin scientific name). Even bead sized pieces of Hainan rosewood can sell for hundreds of dollars - it is quite precious. Thankfully I did not need to pay that much! The scarcity is due largely to demand for centuries leading the species to near extinction. Hainan rosewood was the wood of choice of the Chinese emperor's furniture for several dynasties. Such pieces only exist in museums today. Very little Hainan rosewood was ever exported outside of China so it is quite exciting to be able to offer this cane.
The piece of Hainan rosewood for this cane handle is gorgeous with contrasting grain colors ranging from pinks, purples, reds, and beiges. Hainan rosewood has an excellent chatoyancy, its grain almost sparkles. It also has a light curl figure along the top - extra special! The shaft is Brazilian tulipwood, another very rare rosewood with similar colors and qualities - but from the other side of the world! The end of the handle is decorated with a sparkly purple colored stone, but I admit I don't know what type of stone it is, its from my old estate collection of lapidary materials and it was not labeled. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
A special opportunity to own a "once in a lifetime" wood.
