Myrtle Burl and Rosewood Raptor's Claw
Myrtle Burl and Rosewood Raptor's Claw
This cane is handmade using two beautiful and rare woods from large islands, the handle is Myrtle burl from Tasmania and the shaft Madagascar Rosewood. Burl is always a rare form of figured wood, very few trees grow burls, and the trees must be very old for the burl to grow large enough to be useful for woodcraft. This particular myrtle burl was salvage harvested from the Tarkine rainforest and it's old growth material. Madagascar rosewood is a rare wood and a dwindling resource as well, Its now a highly protected species as its nearly all been cut down. Today the only available material is old and sourced from other woodworkers. In the divider is a piece of burl from another island, Vanuatu. This tinny pacific island nation probably has never exported much wood in its history, but I was able to get a special little bit of it! A moderate weight cane. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
