Box Elder and Purpleheart Cane
Box Elder and Purpleheart Cane
The handle on this cane is box elder wood that I harvested myself in January 2020 from a local creek, it was a large, round root burl that washed out of an embankment that was lodged on rocks in the water. Box elder is a beautiful light color with intricate burl eye grain patterns - quite a lovely piece to look at. The shaft is not a rare wood in the realm of exotic timbers, but its always a favorite, its purpleheart from S. America. Its lives up to its name well, its some of the most colorful wood in the world and its 100% natural! This shaft is also chatoyant and its dense too. A lovely cane finished with a copper metal divider. Medium in weight. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
The handle is resin stabilized, a process of pressuring liquid resin into the wood cells to fill empty air space within the wood and resin which is later hardened. The result is a denser wood that is no longer susceptible to changes in atmospheric humidity.
