Padauk and Kosso Bird Cane

$700.00

This bright and colorful bird cane has some excellent pieces of exotic wood. The handle is figured Padauk wood from S. E. Asia. The block used for the handle came from the middle of a "Y" in the tree where two major branches of the trunk split off from each other, the effect on the wood is brilliant! The divider is brass, and the shaft is Kosso wood. Kosso is quite rare and expensive if it can be found, I have very little of it and enjoy the opportunity to use it. The wood is considered one of the "Hongmu" in China, and has been in high demand for many years leading to a critical decline in this species. Moderate to light in weight, a great feeling cane. Should not be used to support weight as the grain is so erratic in the handle - a good balance aid. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.

During use your index finger wraps comfortably underneath the "beak". Designed to imply motion and flight, the handle is poised slightly forward in relation to the shaft. Therefore, the weight bearing portion of the handle is directly over the shaft, giving the piece a very stable feel.
