Oliveri Bird Cane
Oliveri Bird Cane
This heirloom quality cane is handcrafted from a rosewood species so obscure that it doesn't have a "common name" in the Western world, only its Latin scientific name: Dalbergia Oliveri. It's dense and durable, full of rich color, and has a lovely chatoyance, plus this example has lovely grain. This wood is taken from the crotch of a large tree and has special grain because of that. There are fine chatoyant curls running almost parallel to the grain which are completely unique. There are also what look like flames in the end grain. The divider is Australian Red Mallee burl and the shaft is regular Oliveri rosewood without a notable figure - even still its grain and color is magnificent. Warm copper metal finishes the look perfectly. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit.
During use your index finger wraps comfortably underneath the "beak". Designed to imply motion and flight, the handle is poised slightly forward in relation to the shaft. Therefore, the weight bearing portion of the handle is directly over the shaft, giving the piece a very stable feel.
