Here is a handsome, traditional handled cane with both ancient and modern woods. The handle is ancient bog oak from Ukraine, this wood is approximately 5,000 years old! Wood like this is called "sinker" wood. An oak tree lives a typical life span but when it dies and falls it is covered in peat moss or falls into a bog, both of which create an oxygen deprived environment that perfectly preserves the wood. But the oak does absorb minerals from its surroundings and the result after thousands of years is a dark color. This bog oak is a dark warm grey. Ancient wood like this is very rare and has a great story.

The shaft is Tambootie wood from Africa. Aside form having a very fun name, this wood is actually one of the most toxic woods. Smoke or sawdust from working with Tambootie can cause serious allergic reactions, sever stomach problems, and even blindness. A gentleman from South Africa told me once that if a meal was cooked over a fire with Tambootie wood the food could kill you! All that to be said its perfectly safe as a cane, so no need to worry, Tambootie is a handsome wood with great density and strength and a nice grain. This example has some light figure in the grain and a pleasant chatoyance. I the divider is an obscure acacia species with curl figure and brass. A medium weight cane, but towards the heavier end. Suitable for most users, and would make a good daily use cane. Total length measures 38" and can be shortened to fit
